NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY'S
MOBILE TRACKING LAB

The Mobile Tracking Lab is a new shared research facility that provides a suite of highly portable, mobile data collection tools to be used to collect a rich variety of human activity data in unconstrained physical environments. The facility provides resources for faculty and researchers across Northwestern University and is affiliated with the Collablab, the School of Communication's Department of Communication Studies, and the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences' Department of Psychology.

A MOBILE LABORATORY

The Mobile Tracking Lab is a shared facility that differs from existing facilities and services available both within and outside of Northwestern University. Instead of a stationary physical lab contained within the confines of a particular department or school, our facility functions as a loan shop that grants the use of mobile eye-tracking technology to researchers throughout the university. In addition we house staff and provide the necessary personnel to support users and maintain the equipment.

RESEARCHER OBLIGATIONS AND COST RECOVERY

The services, technology and storage space are provided at no cost to faculty and researchers at Northwestern University. However, we ask that researchers who use the facility more than once to include a $1,000/year line-item on any related grant applications. The money recovered using this method will then be used to help finance the maintenance of the facility and will contribute to the future acquisition of additional technology (if cost recovery from grants is not sufficient, we reserve the right to charge a nominal fee for usage).
